Hook Allotment Rules version 10

Shed Rules from the 15th September

Shed, polytunnel or structure application process and specification information

All applications will be judged by the Committee on a case by case basis.

Requests to erect a shed, polytunnel or structure, or to replace an existing one, should be made in writing by email to info@hookallotments.com

In the email the applicant must provide a plot layout showing the size and proposed location of the shed, polytunnel or structure.

The Committee will take into account the effect on surrounding areas. Any shed, polytunnel or structure should avoid shading adjacent plots and in general this would necessitate a location of at least 1 metre from the paths which run along the edge of a plot.

The maximum size of a shed is 6ft by 4ft. No sheds are allowed on mini plots. A polytunnel should not take up more than one quarter of a plot.

No permanent footings or bases may be constructed.

Sheds must be made of wood. Plastic or metal sheds are not permitted.

Any shed or greenhouse windows should be made of plastic and not glass.

Sheds can be painted any colour.

The height of a structure should not exceed 7ft 6in.

Given the site is very exposed any shed, polytunnel or structure needs to be suitably anchored.

On receipt of an application the Committee will consider the request and will respond via email with their decision.

Once written consent has been received, the applicant has six months to erect the shed, polytunnel or structure.

On approval the applicant will be issued with an invoice for a refundable deposit of £30.00. At the end of a tenancy the deposit will be returned if the following conditions are met:

Shed application – The shed is emptied and left in a serviceable condition or removed from the plot entirely. The Committee will advise the plot holder if they deem the shed to be in a serviceable condition. The incoming plot holder will need to pay their own deposit for the shed they are inheriting.
Polytunnel – The polytunnel is removed from the plot or an agreement is reached with the Committee that the polytunnel can be transferred to the next plot holder if they wish to take it on. The incoming plot holder will need to pay their own deposit for the polytunnel they are inheriting.
Other structure – The structure is removed from the plot or an agreement is reached with the Committee that the structure can be transferred to the next plot holder if they wish to take it on. The incoming plot holder will need to pay their own deposit for the structure they are inheriting.
